In the aftermath of India’s defeat in the 2023 World Cup final, cricket legend Kapil Dev has offered words of encouragement, advising Team India not to let the disappointment linger.
Despite the heartbreak of the World Cup loss, support and well-wishes continue to pour in for Team India. Kapil Dev, the iconic figure who led India to its first World Cup victory, has joined the chorus of sentiments, urging the team to lift themselves from the setback. The defeat in the final, marked by emotional scenes of players like Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami in tears, left a lasting impact on fans nationwide.
Acknowledging the pain felt by the players, Kapil Dev emphasized the need for sportsmen to move on and not let a single defeat define their careers. He stated, “Sportsmen have to move on. You can’t cling on to one setback your entire life. Fans can do this, but not sportsmen. You have to plan for the next day. We can’t undo what has happened but just keep working hard. That’s what sportspersons are all about.”
Speaking at an event to inaugurate the Centre for Advanced Sports Rehabilitation at BLK-Max Super-Specialty hospital, Kapil Dev praised the quality of cricket played by India throughout the tournament. Despite the defeat in the final, he commended the team’s unbeaten run in the league stage and their top-ranking position. The margin of victories, such as a 100-run win against England and bowling South Africa out for 83, highlighted India’s dominance.
“I don’t have to say anything. You have seen everything already. When you lose, people say all kinds of things, but when they win, everything becomes quiet. That’s why let us appreciate the fact that they played wonderful cricket. Yes, we couldn’t cross the final hurdle, but the perfect sportsman learns from this experience,” Kapil added, reflecting on India’s impressive campaign despite falling short in the final.
