Cricket West Indies has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Australia tour, featuring seven uncapped players set to make their Test debut Down Under in January. Kraigg Brathwaite will continue to lead the team, with the newly appointed vice-captain being fast bowler Alzarri Joseph.
The seven uncapped players in the squad are Zachary McCaskie, Tevin Imlach, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Kevin Sinclair, Akeem Jordan, and Shamar Joseph. Lead selector Desmond Haynes acknowledged that the squad faced challenges due to the unavailability of key players, including Jayden Seales (shoulder injury), Jason Holder, and Kyle Mayers, who opted to explore opportunities in Twenty20 leagues in January.
Despite the challenges, Haynes expressed confidence in the team, citing a robust red-ball program conducted over the past year. The squad is set to arrive in Australia on December 30, conducting a preparation camp from January 2-9 in Adelaide. Subsequently, they will engage in a four-day first-class warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI in Adelaide from January 10-13.
The much-anticipated series will see both teams vying for the Frank Worrell Trophy, with the first test scheduled in Adelaide from January 17-21. The second test, a day-night pink-ball encounter, will take place at the Gabba in Brisbane from January 25-29.
Following the Test series, West Indies will engage in three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 matches against Australia, with squad announcements for those games expected at a later date.
Australia currently leads 1-0 in the ongoing three-match Test series against Pakistan, with upcoming matches in Melbourne starting December 26 and Sydney from January 3.
