The BCCI recently unveiled the 15-member team for the series, scheduled to kick off on November 23 in Visakhapatnam. Notably, the T20I squad features only three members from India’s ODI World Cup team.
This announcement comes just four nights after India’s heart-wrenching loss in the World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team, with Shreyas Iyer appointed as the vice-captain for the final two matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who captained the Indian team to victory in the Asian Games in October, will serve as Suryakumar’s deputy for the first three games. Ishan Kishan is the sole player from the ODI World Cup team included in the T20I squad.
A notable exclusion from the 15-member team is Yuzvendra Chahal, who was also left out of the ODI World Cup squad, with India opting for Kuldeep Yadav as the sole leg-spinning option. Chahal’s last appearance for India was during the West Indies tour in August.
After the squad announcement, Chahal took to social media, sharing a cryptic post with just a smiling emoticon, which quickly gained viral attention.
The upcoming T20I series marks the commencement of India’s preparations for the T20 World Cup in the US, scheduled in approximately seven months. Despite the setback, Chahal still has ample opportunities ahead, including the crucial IPL 2024 season.
